Baking Ratios custom Chinese New Year cookie gift box: a drawer rigid box that makes handmade pastries a festival gift

THE CLIENT

This is a typical custom Chinese New Year gift box project. Baking Ratios is a Hong Kong pastry brand known for handmade cookies and small bakes. For the Year of the Rabbit it wanted a box that customers would buy as a gift rather than a snack: festive, sturdy, a pleasure to open, and still recognisably the brand once the season passed.

Choosing a festive gift box: what we chose, and why

Custom drawer rigid box: the slow pull-out is the gift moment

Why

A drawer box opens differently from a lid: the receiver pulls, the tray slides, and the contents appear in one movement. Rigid greyboard keeps the drawer square after many openings, so the box survives the festive table and is kept afterwards. The sleeve carries the artwork; the drawer stays plain and reusable.

For your product

For a gift that is opened in front of people, structure matters more than finish. A drawer or book-shaped rigid box gives a reveal; a plain lid does not. Rigid boxes start from 100 pieces at your size.

Red and gold in CMYK, with calligraphy and a rabbit: festive without foil

Why

The artwork does the festive work: a bold rabbit silhouette, brush-written 兔年大賀年禮盒 and the characters 吉 and 如意 as seals. Printing the gold as a CMYK tone on matte white card kept the box within budget while the red stays saturated. The result reads as a New Year gift from across a room.

For your product

Decide early whether the gold is printed or foiled. Printed gold is fine when the design carries the message; real foil earns its cost when the logo is small and needs to catch light.

Brand and reorder details on the box itself

Why

The gift will be opened by someone who has never been to the shop. The lid carries the Baking Ratios mark and a QR code, so the receiver can find the brand while the pastries are still on the table. Seasonal artwork changes; this panel stays.

For your product

Every gift box is an introduction to a new customer. Give the QR code or shop name a fixed spot in the layout so it survives each seasonal redesign.
