Folding carton or rigid box

A folding carton is a single sheet of cardboard, printed, die-cut and glued along one seam. It arrives flat and pops into shape. A rigid box is greyboard wrapped in printed paper: solid, heavier, assembled at the factory, and several times the price. Cartons are for products sold by the hundred; rigid boxes are for gifts.

Seven structures, by what the product needs

Auto-lock bottom for anything with weight, because the base locks itself. Tuck end for light retail items such as cosmetics and supplements. Drawer box and sleeve box when the opening should feel like a reveal. Lid and base when the whole product should show at once. Window box when the product has to be seen on the shelf. Egg tart box for bakeries. Cardboard mailer box when it also has to be posted.

Board

White card (350gsm matte art card, or 400gsm for extra stiffness) prints cleanly and is the default. Kraft card gives a natural brown finish and takes one-colour print well. Grey-back white card is the economy choice where the inside is not seen. Every product page prices each option.

Print and finishing

CMYK outside as standard; inside print where the box is opened by the customer. Foil stamping in gold or silver, embossing and spot UV are available on most structures, and a clear PET window on the window box. Finishes are priced per position on the product page.

Minimums and timing

From 100 pieces on every structure. Production is 10–12 days after artwork approval; Hong Kong delivery is 1–2 working days on top and included in the price.
